1- Composition of this Tibetan necklace
- Deer antlers

This Mahakala netsuke was entirely hand carved from deer antler by a craftsman specializing in netsuke carving and painting.

Deer antlers are of course harvested when they fall once a year in the spring.
Pigments for painting are obtained from crushed minerals and plants.

Dimensions of this Mahakala netsuke 31mm high by 26mm wide by 23mm thick.

- Who is Mahakala in Vajrayana Buddhism?

Called the "Great Black", Mahakala is particular to Tibet and is called Mong-po, and was accepted as the tutelary deity of Mongolia in the 17th century under the name of Yeke Gara, under Tibetan influence.
