Ghau- Amitabha Buddha Pendant

The ghau is a kind of portable altar in which the image of the chosen deity of the owner is kept, wrapped in silk clothes. The vast majority of Tibetans use the ghau at home and carry it during their travels. They keep it on a real altar at home. When traveling, it is hung on the back belt. It serves as a protective symbol during travels and also allows its owner to prove his devotion to his deity.

BUDDHA AMITABHA

Amitābha, Amitāyus or Amida, in Japanese阿弥陀, is a Buddha of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He reigns over the "Western Pure Land of Bliss" (Sanskrit: Sukhāvatī, Chinese: Xīfāng jílè shìjiè, Japanese: saihō goraku sekai 西方極樂世界), a marvelous, pure, perfect world, free from evil and suffering. This pure land, a place of refuge outside the cycle of transmigrations - equivalent to nirvana according to some conceptions - is at the center of the beliefs and practices of the Pure Land schools. This Buddha, also called the Buddha of Buddhas, is very popular among Mahayana, especially in the Chinese world, Korea, Japan, Tibet, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
