1- What is a Ghau?
The ghau or Gau or Gao is a kind of portable altar in which the image of the chosen deity of the owner is kept, wrapped in silk clothes. The vast majority of Tibetans use the ghau at home and carry it during their travels. They keep it on a real altar at home. When traveling, it is hung on the back belt. It serves as a protective symbol during travels and also allows its owner to prove his devotion to his deity.

2- How was the tangka of this artisanal Tibetan Ghau made?
Genuine traditional Regong Tangka, executed in strict accordance with tradition. The tangka is painted at the Longwu temple, also called Wutun.

Wutun is a Tibetan lamasery located in the Tibetan prefecture of Rebkong, Amdo province, called Huangnan in Qinghai province in China and is 186 km from Xining.

Renowned center of Tibetan thangka painting. Regong arts were inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. The colors of this tangka are composed of pure gold and crushed minerals , as is the tradition of true thangkas.

As Malakara, we make all of our malas ourselves, scrupulously respecting tradition.
A mala is a prayer bead traditionally used in various spiritual practices, mantra recitations, especially in Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and other religious and spiritual traditions of Asia.
It is often made of 108 beads, although some malas may have a different number of beads, sometimes a multiple of 108.

To know everything about malas, their meanings, their uses, their different variants and also a short explanation on malakaras, the creators of mala, please click on this text taking you to our dedicated and explanatory article on our blog

The traditional mala accompanying ghau is composed of :
108 pearls of black sandalwood 8mm in diameter,
amber from Burma
cinnabar
DZI (Tibetan sacred agate) called "tiger teeth" The DZI tiger teeth give the person who wears this DZI will-power and persistence. It is believed that this stone helps to focus the mind and achieve one's personal aspirations.
A DZI is a traditional Tibetan prayer bead, protective talisman or amulet, made from a natural gemstone, such as agate, and decorated with sacred designs. It is considered lucky and protective in Tibetan and Buddhist culture. DZIs can have different shapes and designs, each with its specific symbolic meaning, such as protection from evil, good luck and prosperity.
