Who is Bodhisattva Chenrezig in his Thousand-Armed Form?

Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara, is the bodhisattva of compassion in Tibetan Buddhism. His thousand-armed form symbolizes his infinite commitment to helping all living beings. Each arm has an eye, signifying omnipresent wisdom and the ability to see suffering in the entire world. Chenrezig is revered for his spiritual power and ability to offer protection and peace. His mantra, "Om Mani Padme Hum," is a universal call for compassion and benevolence. Avalokitesvara is part of the triad of Western saints with Amitabha Buddha as the central Buddha of which the bodhisattva is an emanation. To learn more about this triad, I invite you to consult my dedicated article on my blog "Buddhist cultures", by clicking on this link.

On the back of the pendant is the mantra of compassion "om mani padme hum". According to Tibetan Buddhism, reciting the Chenrezig mantra Om Mani Padme Hum, either out loud or inwardly, is an invocation to the loving and powerful attention of Chenrezig, the expression of the Buddha's compassion. Kartika

  • Made of 925 silver and copper, Length 3cm

A kartika is a ritual knife used in Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism, symbolizing the cutting of ignorance and earthly attachments. This curved-bladed knife, often decorated with intricate designs, is associated with the female deity Vajrayogini and other protective deities. Used in tantric rituals, the kartika is a powerful symbol of spiritual transformation. Its distinctive shape and use in ritual practices make it a sacred and respected object, often depicted in Buddhist art and sculpture. Sword to Cut the Veils of Ignorance

  • Made of 925 silver and copper, length 3cm

In Buddhism, the sword symbolizes wisdom and the ability to cut through the illusions and ignorance that obscure the path to enlightenment. It is often associated with Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom, or with the Buddha Acala who is frequently depicted holding a flaming sword. This sword, sometimes called the sword of wisdom or the sword of discernment, is used to dispel the darkness of ignorance and reveal the ultimate truth. It embodies the mental clarity and insight necessary to progress on the spiritual path.

Dorje and Bell

  • Composed of silver and copper.

In Buddhism, the dorje (or vajra) and the bell are sacred symbols used during tantric rituals. The dorje represents method, compassion, and the indestructible strength of the mind, while the bell symbolizes wisdom, emptiness, and the feminine nature of enlightenment. Together, they embody the union of compassion and wisdom, which is essential to achieving enlightenment. Their use during ritual practices is intended to awaken and strengthen these qualities in practitioners.
