Tibetan Mala - Pipal Seeds - Authentic 1-Eye DZI
As Malakara, we make all of our malas ourselves, scrupulously respecting tradition.
As a gemologist graduated from the National Institute of Gemmology in Paris, all our materials are appraised and certified.
1) What is a mala?
A mala is a prayer bead traditionally used in various spiritual practices, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and other Asian religious and spiritual traditions.
It is often made of 108 beads, although some malas may have a different number of beads, sometimes a multiple of 108.
To know everything about malas, their meanings, their uses, their different variants and also a short explanation on malakaras, the creators of mala, please click on this text taking you to our dedicated and explanatory article on our blog
2) This Tibetan mala is composed of:
108 Bodhi Seed Beads also called Pipal Seeds or Sacred Fig Seeds.
Dimensions of each pearl: 6.96mm high by 3.13mm wide
Buddha having attained enlightenment under a sacred fig tree (ficus religiosa), pipal seeds are the most traditional material for making malas. These seeds acquire a patina and take on a beautiful shine over time called "porcelain layer". Our seeds come from the island of Hainan known for cultivating and drying the finest quality in the world. Be careful, many websites and specialist stores mistakenly name these seeds as Lotus seeds.

Counter beads of this Tibetan mala, all 27 beads in red sandalwood on which the mantra of compassion "om mani padme hum" has been engraved.
Diameter of each pearl: 15.56mm
According to Tibetan Buddhism, reciting this mantra out loud or inwardly is an invocation to the benevolent and powerful attention of Chenrezig. To learn more about this mantra, see our dedicated article by clicking on this text
The centerpiece of this Tibetan mala is an authentic DZI , or sacred Tibetan agate known as "one-eyed" agate .
Dimensions of this DZI: 59.41mm long by 12.70mm thick
The patterns of this exceptional single-eye DZI are circled in 925 silver.

A DZI is a type of traditional Tibetan prayer bead or amulet, often made from a natural gemstone, such as agate, and decorated with sacred designs. It is considered lucky and protective in Tibetan and Buddhist culture. DZIs can have different shapes and designs, each with its specific symbolic meaning, such as protection from evil, good luck, and prosperity.
Virtues and benefits brought to the wearer of a one-eyed DZI:
Among the many motifs present on the Dzis, those with a single eye occupy a special place in Tibetan tradition.
These unique Dzis, adorned with an eye-shaped motif, carry a deep meaning related to protection and clairvoyance .
The eye present on the one-eyed Dzis is interpreted as a symbol of vigilance. It is considered a " watchful eye " that observes and protects its wearer from negative energies and harmful influences.
Known for their power to protect against evil spirits , malevolent influences and negative energies. They act as a safety barrier, helping to prevent obstacles and dispel harmful influences.

Above this DZI we have integrated a hand-carved dragon head made of buffalo bone.
Dimensions of this dragon 23.28mm long by 13.85mm wide by 15.29mm high.
In Tibetan culture, the dragon holds an important place as a symbol of power, wisdom and protection.
Dimensions of this Guru bead: 29.74mm high by 18.38mm wide by 16.19mm thick
Below this Guru bead is the sliding knot , which allows the Tibetan mala to be loosened for practice and tightened once the mantra recitations are finished. This sliding knot also allows this Tibetan mala to be worn around the neck like a Tibetan necklace.
Below this knot we have placed the symbol of the double vajra or double dorje in 925 silver.
Dimensions of this pearl: 18mm in diameter
The term "dorje" means "diamond" in Tibetan, representing the indestructible nature of ultimate reality. The double dorje is formed by two intertwined dorjes, creating a star-shaped structure.
Length 63cm
Weight 83 grams
This Tibetan mala, due to its small size and low weight, makes it the ideal companion for your travels.
In addition to its usual side, this Tibetan mala was designed as a very elegant and very aesthetic Tibetan necklace.
