PALAEOCARCHARODON ORIENTALIS:
Palaeocarcharodon, commonly known as the pygmy white shark, is a genus of extinct sharks in the family Otodontidae. This marine predator evolved during the Paleocene, a period spanning approximately 61.7 to 55.8 million years ago.

Known only from one identified species, P. orientalis, Palaeocarcharodon is distinguished by its triangular, labiolingually compressed teeth, decorated with irregular serrations and toothed lateral cusplets. These teeth, measuring 3 to 6 centimeters (1.2 to 2.4 inches), reflect the shark's relatively small size compared to other members of the family Otodontidae.

Its existence offers a glimpse into the diversity of sharks during the Paleocene, a time when the oceans were teeming with marine creatures. Although Palaeocarcharodon is no longer present in today's oceans, studying its fossils contributes to our understanding of shark evolution and ecology during earlier geological periods.
