Key Technical Characteristics of This Labradorite Dragon Pendant

As a certified gemologist from the National Gemology Institute (ING, Paris, France), I personally select and appraise the natural stones offered by Obsidian Dragons. Each material is studied for its gemological characteristics, quality, structure, and aesthetic appeal before being incorporated into one of our creations.

🐉 Nature of the creation: entirely handcrafted dragon pendant, designed as a true miniature wearable sculpture

✍️ Design: original drawing created by Obsidian Dragons

💎 Main stone:: natural, high-quality labradorite, selected in its rough state for the intensity and orientation of its optical phenomena

🔬 Mineralogical family:: plagioclase feldspar belonging to the series between albite, rich in sodium, and anorthite, rich in calcium

🌈 Optical phenomenon:: natural labradorescence producing intense blue, turquoise, green, and golden-yellow reflections depending on the stone's orientation and light

✨ Origin of colors: light interference caused by microscopic lamellar structures present in the feldspar; the colors therefore do not come from an artificial pigment

📊 Hardness of labradorite:: generally between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale

⚒️ Sculpture work: dragon head handcrafted by respecting the natural volumes and the orientation of the labradorescence

👁️ Motif composition: dragon depicted frontally, with an intense gaze, developed horns, and a sculpted mane in relief

🥈 Metal: 925 silver, also called sterling silver, composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals intended to strengthen its mechanical resistance

🛠️ Setting:: handcrafted setting made specifically to follow the irregular contours of the sculpture without concealing the main areas of labradorescence

🔄 Reverse construction:: widely open setting allowing direct observation of the natural structure, inclusions, and chromatic variations of the labradorite

📏 Total height: 47 mm, including bail

↔️ Width: 32 mm

📐 Thickness: 10 mm, revealing the true depth of the sculptural work

⚖️ Total weight: 22 grams

👤 Wear:: unisex dragon jewelry suitable for both men and women who appreciate imposing pendants and creations with character

🔥 Style: designer jewelry, mineral sculpture, esoteric pendant, and contemporary talisman

🛡️ Main symbolism:: vigilance, symbolic protection, self-control, inner strength, and spiritual transformation

🏛️ Exclusivity: model designed for Obsidian Dragons and not found in standardized jewelry catalogs

🌟 Unique character:: this piece features a different distribution of reflections, inclusions, and internal structures; no two labradorites can exactly replicate each other's light

🤲 Manufacturing: artisanal process involving the selection of rough material, creation of the design, carving of the stone, and final setting in 925 silver

From rough labradorite to dragon pendant: the birth of an exclusive Obsidian Dragons creation

It all started with a rough labradorite, chosen for its quality and the orientation of its reflections. I didn't want to impose a pre-existing motif on it but to design a dragon capable of utilizing the natural movements of the stone. So, I drew this head, thinking about how its horns, gaze, and mane could appear in the blue, green, and golden flashes of the labradorescence.

Once the sculpture was complete, the dragon was entrusted to the setter to create a 925 silver mounting precisely adapted to its contours. This labradorite dragon pendant set in 925 silver is therefore not a catalog model found from one stall to another: it was designed from the choice of the rough material to the final assembly, exclusively for Obsidian Dragons.

Its dragon head emerges from a natural labradorite traversed by blue, turquoise, green, and golden reflections. The creature seems at times to appear, at times to recede into the depth of the stone. Depending on the orientation of the light, its gaze sharpens, its reliefs illuminate, and its expression transforms.

This pendant possesses, I think, a true presence. A miniature sculpture to wear, an emblem of vigilance, inner power, and transformation.

An exclusive Obsidian Dragons creation, born from rough labradorite

To understand this piece, one must return to its origin, already mentioned in the introduction.

This succession of steps legitimizes the expression "designer jewelry":

💎 Personal selection of the rough stone

✏️ Original personal drawing

🖐️ Handcrafted sculpture

🌈 Highlighting the natural orientations of the labradorite

⚒️ Mounting and setting in 925 silver

🔎 Final check for coherence between the stone, sculpture, and metal

This is not a generic dragon head bought already carved and then simply turned into a pendant. Here, the intention precedes the object: the stone, the drawing, the carving, and the setting belong to the same creative process.

This precise drawing, this expression, these proportions, and this construction belong solely to Obsidian Dragons.

Several pieces can be born from the same design, but no two can be absolutely identical. Each labradorite has its own internal structures, its own areas of light, and its own labradorescence. Each creation thus becomes a individually unique piece within a small artisanal series.

Labradorite: when matter reveals light

Labradorite belongs to the plagioclase feldspar group, a fundamental mineralogical family in the composition of many terrestrial rocks. Its composition lies between two mineralogical poles: albite, rich in sodium, and anorthite, rich in calcium.
the composition of labradorite is generally between An50 and An70, meaning between 50 and 70% anorthite component

It generally has a hardness between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale. This resistance allows its use in jewelry and sculpture, but its cleavage directions require careful cutting and some caution when wearing.

The most sought-after characteristic of this natural fine stone remains labradorescence. This optical phenomenon results from the interaction of light with very fine lamellar structures present within the feldspar. Light waves interfere with each other and produce these bands of spectral colors that appear only under certain orientations.

This high-quality labradorite thus reveals deep blue reflections, almost electric turquoise flashes, green and grey-green areas, significant golden yellow light, a natural iridescence varying with each movement, and chromatic transitions that highlight the dragon's face differently.

Color appears, moves, and disappears. This mobility constitutes the entire beauty of a sculpted labradorite: the material relief and the optical phenomenon seem to act together.

When the light changes, the dragon's expression itself seems different. The eyes can become more present, the horns emerge from the shadow, while parts of the mane ignite with blue or gold.

This property also brings a philosophical dimension to the creation: what remains momentarily invisible is not necessarily absent. Some realities only appear when we find the right angle to look at them.

A dragon head sculpted as a presence

The dragon is depicted frontally, in a symmetrical composition. Its horns, arches, snout, and the movements of its mane converge towards a particularly intense central gaze.

This frontal view gives it a different presence from that of a dragon depicted in motion.

Its expression evokes contained power, authority, and constant vigilance. The dragon seems ready to act but remains in control of itself. It therefore represents not only strength but also the ability to govern that strength.

The significant relief of the sculpture further reinforces this impression. The volumes truly project out of the stone. The face appears as a creature crossing the boundary between mineral matter and the visible world.

The 925 silver setting follows the contours of the sculpture without unnecessarily covering the labradorite. It acts as a framework, a metallic protection surrounding the creature. The reverse generously exposes the stone, allowing observation of its natural structure and the continuity of its colors.

The dragon in Chinese history and culture

The dragon holds a significant place in East Asian cultures, particularly in Chinese civilization.

In China, the dragon — lóng, 龙 — is generally a benevolent creature associated with water, clouds, rain, the fertility of the land, and the renewal of natural forces. It represents a mobile power, capable of circulating between aquatic depths, earth, and sky.

Over centuries, it appears on jades, bronzes, textiles, paintings, imperial objects, buildings, and ritual instruments. Its association with the emperor has become particularly famous, but the dragon also belongs to popular traditions, mythological tales, cosmology, Taoism, and representations of the natural world.

In Taoist arts, dragons embody a cosmic energy capable of creating clouds and rain. Their sinuous form conveys movement, change, and the circulation of forces rather than static power.

In Feng Shui, the Green Dragon or Azure Dragon is associated with the East, spring, sunrise, and the unfolding of ascending Yang energy. It symbolically represents growth, vitality, initiative, and the ability to set forces in motion.

This dragon head, however, is part of this long-standing perception of the dragon as a being of power, guardian, intermediary between different planes, and visible manifestation of transforming energy.

dragon in Feng Shui, its strength and energy.

The dragon as guardian of the threshold

This dragon head can be considered an apotropaic figure. This term refers to an image whose visual force or intimidating appearance has a symbolic protective function.

The frontal gaze of the dragon confronts what stands before it. A guardian dragon, placed at the border between the wearer's intimate space and the outside world.

The pendant can symbolize:

👁️ Vigilance against illusions

🛡️ The ability to recognize hostile influences

🔐 Protection of one's identity

🐉 The courage needed to cross a period of transition

🔥 Mastery of one's own strengths

👑 Inner sovereignty

♻️ Conscious transformation

From this perspective, the true power of the dragon lies in its ability not to be dominated by its own fears, impulses, or external circumstances.

This natural stone dragon jewel can thus become a personal reminder: to remain mindful, preserve one's energy, act with discernment, and not abandon one's inner power.

Labradorite, intuition, and spiritual transformation

In modern esoteric beliefs and lithotherapy, labradorite is described as a symbolic protection stone, of intuition and transformation.

Some contemporary traditions attribute to it the ability to symbolically help protect oneself from negative energies, strengthen inner listening, and accompany periods of change.

The symbolism remains particularly consistent with the actual appearance of the stone. Labradorite appears dark as long as no light properly meets its structure. Then, under a precise orientation, it suddenly reveals colors that seemed absent.

It can thus represent:

✨ The hidden light behind appearances

🔮 The revelation of still unexpressed abilities

🌅 The passage from darkness to understanding

👁️ Intuition as an inner change of perspective

♻️ Transformation and rebirth

💎 The discovery of a strength that already existed but remained invisible

Associated with the dragon, it forms a true talisman of transformation. The stone brings the interplay between shadow and revelation; the dragon gives it form, gaze, and will.

The symbolism of 925 silver

925 silver, also called sterling silver 925, is an alloy containing 92.5% silver. The remaining 7.5% is made of copper, generally used to improve the mechanical resistance of the material.

This composition is particularly suitable for a setting that must hold a relatively thick sculpture weighing 30 grams. Silver offers both solidity, precision of work, and luminosity. Its cold luster naturally dialogues with the blue and green reflections of labradorite, while the gilded areas produce a more unexpected contrast.

In Western symbolic correspondences, silver is traditionally linked to the Moon, receptivity, reflection, intuition, and the inner world. This interpretation here joins that of labradorite: silver does not produce the image itself, but receives light and reflects it.

Visually, the setting forms a luminous armor around the dragon. Symbolically, it contains the creature's power without imprisoning it.

A dragon pendant for men, women, or collectors

This creation can be worn as a dragon pendant for men, a dragon pendant for women, or a unisex dragon jewel.

Its dimensions and weight, however, make it a jewel of character. It is intended for a person who accepts that a pendant is immediately visible and expresses a strong identity.

This piece may particularly suit:

💎 Collectors of designer jewelry

🐉 Dragon and mythical creature enthusiasts

🪨 Fine stone carving enthusiasts

🖐️ People looking for a handmade artisan pendant

🌈 Collectors of labradorites with exceptional reflections

🔮 Lovers of esoteric jewelry and symbolic talismans

♻️ People going through a period of transformation

🔥 Those who wish to wear a symbol of courage, vigilance, or inner strength

🏰 Lovers of fantasy jewelry and fantasy worlds

✨ People who reject impersonal mass-produced models

It can also make a gift for a dragon enthusiast, an esoteric gift, a symbolic gift, or an artisan creation for a collector. Its singular character, however, requires knowing the person well enough: this dragon does not aim to be neutral or consensual.

Mounted on a sufficiently strong chain, it becomes an imposing dragon necklace, designed to be worn at the center of the body. Its weight of 30 grams gives it a real physical presence: you don't completely forget it when you wear it.

What makes this creation truly exclusive

Dragon pendants can now be found on many stalls, platforms, and catalogs. Many come from the same models reproduced on a large scale, sometimes with only a different stone or finish.

This type of repetition no longer corresponds to the direction taken by Obsidian Dragons.

It is therefore indeed an exclusive model and an original creation. This piece retains the formal language of the initial design but has its own light, its own face, and its own presence.

It is this continuity between design, material, and artisans that transforms a simple pendant into a true designer jewel.

How to care for this labradorite and 925 silver pendant?

Labradorite has suitable hardness for jewelry, but it remains sensitive to shocks due to its natural cleavage directions. The depth of the carving also requires careful maintenance.

To preserve this pendant:

⚠️ Avoid shocks and drops on a hard surface

🏃 Do not wear it during sports or manual activities

💧 Avoid prolonged contact with water, perfumes, and chemicals

🚫 Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner or steam cleaning

✨ Wipe the silver with a soft, non-abrasive cloth

🪥 Gently clean the hollows of the sculpture with a very soft brush

💎 Store the pendant separately so it is not scratched by other jewelry

⛓️ Use a chain or cord suitable for its 30-gram weight

925 silver can naturally tarnish over time. This surface reaction does not call into question the quality of the metal and can be corrected by gentle cleaning suitable for silver jewelry, avoiding aggressive products on the labradorite.

A dragon to wear

This labradorite dragon pendant set in 925 silver brings together three languages: that of the Earth, inscribed in the feldspar structure; that of the human being, expressed by the design and artisanal work; and that of the symbol, carried by the millennial figure of the dragon.

The stone brings depth and light. The sculptor gives this light a face. The silver offers it a structure allowing it to be worn close to the body.

The result is a work that is simultaneously mineralogical, artisanal, aesthetic, and spiritual: a dragon head that never looks exactly the same depending on the angle from which it is observed.

This creation is a personal guardian, an emblem of controlled power, and a reminder of this essential truth: light does not always reveal itself immediately, but it may already be present at the heart of matter.
