The Buddhist Wheel of Life and Bagua Trigrams

In terms of symbols, the Buddha, seated under the bodhi tree, saw two things. First, he saw a Ferris wheel. This wheel embraces the totality of conditioned existence, it is of the same extent as the cosmos, it contains all living beings. It turns constantly: it turns day and night, it turns life after life, it turns era after era.

We cannot see when it began to turn, and we cannot yet see when it will stop turning: only a Buddha sees that.

Bagua trigrams, on the other hand, are a key feng shui concept. The pendant features the 9 celestial palaces in feng shui, which are represented by the Bagua trigrams:

  • Southeast: Abundance both spiritually and materially
  • Southwest: Renown, your reputation
  • West: Children, is about creativity, projects and the future
  • North-West: Relates to external aid and travel. Mentor, teacher, friend and people you trust
  • Northeast: Knowledge and wisdom, concerns knowledge, studies, and personal development
  • Center: The spokes of the wheel converge at the hub. They converge towards the void. And it is thanks to him that the chariot moves forward. A vase is made of clay but it is its emptiness that makes it suitable for its task. A house is made of walls pierced with doors and windows, but it is their emptiness that makes it habitable. Thus, man constructs objects, but it is the void that gives them meaning. It is what is missing that gives the raison d'etre. (Lao Tzu) It is the center that binds and activates the other 8 palaces
  • South: Relations, couple, children, families, friends, colleagues etc...
